Recording flu vaccinations for patients experiencing homelessness: guidance updated

People experiencing homelessness aged 16 and over will be included in the national flu vaccination programme from 1 October 2026. To support this, the GP additional guidance for seasonal vaccinations has been updated to set out how vaccinations for this new cohort should be recorded.

This is a small but important addition to get right from the start of the season. New cohorts often bring their own coding or recording nuances, and getting it wrong at the point of vaccination tends to mean rework later — either at claims stage or when reconciling numbers against what was actually delivered.

Worth doing before the season starts: read the updated guidance with whoever leads on vaccinations at your practice, check your clinical system templates reflect the correct recording approach for this cohort, and make sure anyone vaccinating knows to apply it from day one rather than partway through the campaign.
