Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are a common health concern and a significant driver of NHS demand. In 2023/24, UTIs were responsible for 1.2 million bed days, and over half of E. coli bloodstream infections began as urinary infections.
To support earlier identification and prevention, NHS England and UKHSA have put together a communications toolkit and resource pack for use across primary care, pharmacies, care homes and community settings. The new materials include a short UTI prevention awareness video for waiting room screens, along with a UTI prevention poster and a UTI symptom poster, both translated into 13 additional languages.
For practice managers, this is a ready-made addition to your patient communications: the video can go straight onto waiting room screens, and the translated posters are a quick way to make UTI symptom information more accessible to patients who don’t have English as a first language.
Worth doing this week: download the toolkit, check whether the translated posters cover the languages most relevant to your patient population, and add the awareness video to your waiting room screen rotation alongside your existing content.
