Why We’ve Categorised Our Harmony CQC Audits into Premises, People, and Process

When we set out to review and categorise our audits, we expected to see a fairly even spread across Premises, People, and Process. After all, a lot of the CQC’s historic focus has been on premises—ensuring that buildings are fit for purpose, safety measures are in place, and compliance is met. But something unexpected happened.

As we sorted through the audits, we realised that there were far fewer Premises audits than we expected. And this wasn’t just a minor oversight—it was a clear pattern.

What Does This Tell Us?

It tells us that the CQC isn’t prioritising Premises in the way it used to. Instead, the real focus was reflected through inadequate reports and compliance failures – on People and Process.

This shift isn’t about neglecting premises, but rather an indication that the biggest risks to quality of care now lie elsewhere. Training, culture, governance, and operational processes are where things are most likely to go wrong, and that’s where the CQC is directing its attention.

So, What Are These Audit Categories?

🔹 Premises – Still important, but less of a regulatory hot spot than before. This covers safety, maintenance, accessibility, and overall compliance with the physical environment.

🔹 People – The real heart of any organisation. Audits here focus on staff training, competency, engagement, and the overall well-being of teams. Ensuring people are supported, informed, and capable is a clear regulatory priority.

🔹 Process – Where compliance and efficiency meet. These audits cover governance, risk management, operational workflows, and best practices. If processes aren’t well-defined or executed, things start to break down quickly—which is why we see so many inadequate reports pointing here.

Why This Matters to You

If you’re focusing too much on Premises at the expense of People and Process, you might miss where the real risks lie. The CQC is looking at how you run your services, how you support your staff, and how well your processes work—because that’s where failures happen.

By restructuring our Harmony CQC Audits in this way, we’re making it easier to:
✅ Pinpoint the most pressing risks in your organisation
✅ Align with the CQC’s focus areas so you’re always inspection-ready
✅ Improve operational resilience by tackling issues before they become problems

This isn’t just an internal exercise—it’s a reflection of how compliance is evolving. And by shifting our focus accordingly, we’re making sure we continue to support you in the most relevant and effective way.
